Biography
Dr. Gayenell S. Magwood is Professor with tenure in the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Magwood’s research interests address cardiometabolic/stroke and cancer disparities related to multiple risk reduction and chronic disease management. Her approach is based on building transdisciplinary teams to address real-world and complex problems aimed at improving health outcomes and preventing disease related to cardiometabolic, stroke and cancer prevention and control. As a nurse scientist, she contributes expertise in the intersection of community and health systems. Dr. Magwood’s substantive contributions have informed and guided community systems change through capacity building in the context of community-academic partnerships and have been disseminated through peer review publications, service on national boards and ongoing consultative roles, mentoring and successful acquisition of competitively funded scientific grants as either a PI or Co-I.
